Overview

Internationalisation of the curriculum (IoC) is the incorporation of an international and intercultural dimension into the content of the curriculum as well as the teaching and learning processes and support services of a program of study. An internationalised curriculum will engage students with internationally informed research as well as cultural and language diversity (Leask 2009).

IoC involves the incorporation of international, intercultural and/or global dimensions into the curriculum, cascading into learning outcomes, assessment tasks, teaching methods, and support services of a program of study (Leask, 2015).

Application

IoC at DUT is applied university-wide in all aspects of teaching and learning, and the academic support areas. It aims to encourage intercultural and international perspectives across the university and not only in the lecture room.

Purpose of the site

The purpose of this site is to provide guidance and resources to all staff on how to develop a more globalised and professional approach to their teaching methods, engagements and research endeavours. We aim to support the DUT community in achieving the university’s international objectives and engagements, and in provide strategies that can enable our students to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become true engaged citizens.

Objectives

Some of the aims of internationalisation of the curriculum are to ensure that:

  • Staff and students access capacity development activities to be able to be on par with their peers globally;
  • DUT students are offered a curriculum that is recognised and comparable with other curricular internationally;
  • DUT graduates are equipped to be adaptive in any workplace and situation due to the competitive curriculum offered;
  • Collaborations and links are forged between DUT and other universities internationally and in the region, in terms of research and training.
