The Department of Finance and Information (FIM) – Midlands, situated in the capital city of KwaZulu-Natal, is positioning itself as a Department of Choice for academic excellence at this prestigious University. The Department offers a myriad of programmes in three disciplines, vis., Accounting, Business and Information Management (BIM) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). FIM is also working towards introducing more programmes up to the PhD level. It is situated at the Riverside and Indumiso Campuses. The IT programmes are offered at the Indumiso campus while the Accounting and BIM programmes are offered at the Riverside Campus. It is composed of local and international students, forming a rich tapestry of culture and ethnicity enriching the overall learning experience. Our staff, who come from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, are highly qualified, experienced and student-centred. We are committed to advancing finance and business information leaders through excellence in teaching and learning; relevant multidisciplinary research; and stakeholder engagement. Mrs Thompson coordinates the programmes in Accounting and Cost & Management Accounting, while Mrs Mthalane coordinates the programmes in Business & Information Management and Office Management & Technology.
Secretary: Mrs J McBain National Diploma: Accounting (full-time and part-time) This qualification serves as the academic component for membership as an Accounting Technician with the South African Institute of Professional Accountants. Diploma Accounting Entrance Requirements National Diploma: Office Management & Technology (ND: OMT) (full-time only) This qualification is intended for administrative officers at an intermediate level in all sectors of the economy. Qualifying learners will provide independent and competent management support in the form of business and information administration, demonstrating various administrative and communication skills, as well as elementary and/or advanced skills in any two of Legal, Personnel or Financial environments, which will enable them to plan and execute tasks creatively, professionally and efficiently in accordance with international standards in this fields. This diploma equips the learner with supervisory skills to work independently and still be an important member of the executive team. Graduates easily secure national and international administrative positions. Diploma in Business and Information Management Entrance Requirements Master’s Management Sciences Degree Administration and Information Management This is a thesis based qualification focusing on research related to Administration and Information Management. Entrance into this qualification is a B: Tech: Office Management and Technology or Commercial Administration or Business Administration or Post Graduate Diploma in Business and Information Management or equivalent, at the discretion of the programme.About the department
