Dr David Mohale holds a PhD in the field of Development Studies from the University of South Africa. Prior his doctoral studies, he obtained Masters in the field of Public Policy from Wits University and BA Degree (Cum Laude) from Central University of Technology. He also holds various certificates ranging from leadership to local government planning, processes, systems and structures.
He is the published author and has presented papers at several international conferences and one national conference focusing on themes such as the developmental state, the developmental local government, local economic development, corruption and many others.
David Mohale is currently employed as a Director: Special Projects in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor at Durban University of Technology. He was previously employed as the Senior Manager: Office of the Speaker in Matjhabeng Local Municipality from November 2012 until April 2017. His duties mainly included the provision of strategic support to councillors, council committees, oversight tasks and public participation as well as daily management of the office. The strategic support extends to issues of capacity building for all 72 councillors and 360 ward committee members.
Other previous responsibilities include a Senior Researcher in the office of the Speaker, Communication Officer and later the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Mayor in Masilonyana Local Municipality. He also had a short stint as Acting Director for Local Economic Development.
Immediately after his completion of the BA Degree, he was appointed as a Student Assistant in the Welkom Campus English Department. Other employment responsibilities included working as a substitute English teacher as St. Edmund Rice School and freelance journalist for Cape Town based Soccer-Laduma newspaper.
He has served in various leadership responsibilities which include the following, amongst others; (i) Appointed by President Ramaphosa to serve for 5 five years as a member of the Municipal Demarcation Board; (ii) Spokesperson of the Regional Executive Committee of the ANC for 5 years; (iii) Spokesperson of the ANCYL in FS; (iv) member of the Provincial Executives Committee of Young Communist Leagues; (v) Chairperson of SASCO Free State; (vi) SRC President for two terms and (vii) CUT Deputy President of Alumni Association. He is a mentor to a number of young people in the Free State and also doubles up as a community development activist. He holds several awards and has been invited as a penal member in numerous platforms that discussed national development issues, including the then draft National Development Plan in 2012.
